Actor and director John Cameron Mitchell will offer an intimate, filmgoing experience at the Sun-Ray Cinema in 5 Points March 2 and 3, 2012. The director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus, and most recently Rabbit Hole, starring Nicole Kidman, has programmed a weekend full o’ film that has inspired — and will complement the scheduled screenings of — his own work.
The unique opportunity begins on Friday with a screening of Mitchell’s sweetly transgressive Shortbus, at which he and actors PJ Deboy and Paul Dawson will provide a live commentary while the film rolls. The conversation will focus initially on the experiences our guests had making the film, but ultimately become a chance to communicate with the creator and actors in a free-form dialogue that goes one step further than a traditional question and answer session. This innovative approach to live commentary is the latest in The Talkies (www.thetalkies.net), a series that has previously featured directors such as John Waters and George Romero. Also on Friday, a screening of Hedwig and the Angry Inch straight up, including sing-a-longs.
March 2, 7:30 PM The Talkies/Shortbus with Mitchell and cast $20.00
March 2, 10:00 PM Hedwig and the Angry Inch $10
March 3, 7 PM Badlands/Real Life double feature $10 each or $18 for both
